From July 6 to 10, the Accelerator and Beamline Future Talent Human Resource Development Center at Korea University Sejong Campus and the Future Accelerator Workforce Development Center at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) jointly hosted the 2026 Accelerator Summer School at Science and Technology Building I on the Korea University Sejong Campus.

 

The Accelerator Summer School is a specialized educational program operated as part of the Ministry of Science and ICT's Accelerator Workforce Development and Utilization Support Program. Designed to cultivate the next generation of experts in accelerator science and technology, the program provides graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and other participants with systematic education covering accelerator theory, core technologies, and the latest research trends.

 

This year's program brought together approximately 80 undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers from universities and research institutes across Korea. Participants shared the latest technological advances and research trends in the accelerator field while enhancing their professional expertise.

 

The curriculum featured lectures by 17 leading domestic and international experts on a wide range of topics, including the construction and operation of national large-scale accelerator facilities such as multi-purpose synchrotron radiation accelerators and heavy-ion accelerators, research and development of superconducting accelerating cavities and beam diagnostic systems, and accelerator beam application technologies. 

 

Participants gained valuable insights into cutting-edge accelerator technologies and recent research developments while strengthening their research capabilities through networking with experts in the field.

 

Ko Byungrok, Director of the Accelerator and Beamline Future Talent Human Resource Development Center, said, "Our center enhances expertise in the accelerator and beamline fields through a variety of educational programs, including inter-university credit exchange programs, intensive vacation training, accelerator schools, and participation in overseas accelerator research projects. Through systematic education, we aim to cultivate highly qualified professionals who will contribute to the successful construction and operation of Korea's large-scale accelerator facilities, while expanding industry-academia collaboration with accelerator-related companies to establish a sustainable ecosystem for the domestic accelerator industry."

 

The 2026 Accelerator Summer School was supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the National Research Foundation of Korea, and the Accelerator Research Center at Korea University Sejong Campus.
