2026 Korean American Youth Homeland Visit Program Welcomes 76 Participants, Including 59 Korean American Students from the United States 

 

Hands-on Experiences in Korean History, Culture, Industry, and National Security Foster Korean Identity

 

From June 30 to July 10, Korea University Sejong Campus in partnership with the Korean Heritage Education Foundation of New York, is hosting the 2026 Korean American Youth Homeland Visit Program. 

 

The 11-day, 10-night program is designed to help Korean American youth gain a deeper understanding of their ancestral homeland. The program aims to help participants better understand Korean history and culture while strengthening their identity and pride as members of the Korean people. 

 

Through this initiative, Korea University Sejong Campus seeks to fulfill its social mission as a historically rooted educational institution while providing meaningful experiences that support Korean American youth in developing into globally minded leaders. 

A total of 76 participants is taking part in this year’s program, including 59 Korean American students residing in the United States, Choi Soonwook, President of the Korean Heritage Education Foundation, Board Member Song Changui, Dr. Jeong Hyuntae, Chief Program Director from Korea University Sejong Campus, 12 university student mentors, and two student media mentors. 

A welcome ceremony was held on June 30 at Korea University Sejong Campus, attended by Vice President Yang Jiwoon and university officials. Following the ceremony and orientation, participants began their program with a campus tour and a visit to the Presidential Archives in Sejong City. 

 

Throughout the program, participants will experience various aspects of Korea’s history, culture, industry, and national security. Highlights include military experience activities with the Army’s 32nd Infantry Division; a tour of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), the Cheorwon Peace Observatory, and the Baengmagoji Battlefield; traditional cultural experiences in Jeonju Hanok Village; visits to Muju Taekwondowon with Taekwondo training sessions; cultural heritage tours of Seokguram Grotto, Bulguksa Temple, and Cheomseongdae Observatory in Gyeongju; visits to the Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan; tours of Gwanghwamun, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and the National Museum of Korea; and visits to Hyundai Motorstudio, Lotte World Tower, and COEX. 

On-campus activities include drawing the Korean national flag, learning K-pop dance, writing reflection essays, talent show, and a farewell banquet, allowing participants to experience Korean culture in an engaging environment while interacting with university student mentors. The closing ceremony will be held on July 10 following a tour of Korea University’s Seoul Campus. 

 

Since 2009, Korea University Sejong Campus and the Korean Heritage Education Foundation have jointly organized the Korean American Youth Homeland Visit Program, providing generations of Korean American youth with opportunities to experience Korea’s history and culture while strengthening their sense of Korean identity. 

 

During this year’s program, the two organizations will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a donation agreement to further strengthen their partnership in promoting Korean heritage education and identity among Korean American youth. 

 

A representative of Korea University Sejong Campus stated, “We hope this homeland visit will provide Korean American youth with a meaningful opportunity to experience Korea’s history and culture firsthand while reconnecting with their roots. Together with the Korean Heritage Education Foundation, we will continue to contribute to nurturing future leaders who possess both a strong Korean identity and global competencies.”
